About

Ottawa Rambler was created to document my outdoor adventures (hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, snowshoeing, etc.) as well as my rambles about everyday Ottawa life, with the occasional rant on Canadian or world affairs.

Additionally, it was also created to showcase my photography, amateur and student of the craft though I am.  The purpose of doing so is to both open myself to criticism and to challenge me to hone my skills by doing.  After all, much like an artist is someone who creates art, a photographer is someone who takes photographs!  Displaying my work and eliciting feedback can only help me with the doing part, and I am hoping the skill comes with time!  I tend to drift towards nature and landscape photography, given how I spend my free time, but do want to try studio work, portraiture, still life and street photography, hopefully with an artistic bent.  As I mentioned above, I am a student, and will no doubt post some of my assignments, as I take classes at the Ottawa School of Photographic Arts.

Cast of Characters

The Rambler (aka Dave)

The Rambler is a federal civil servant, who lives and plays in Wellington Village in Ottawa, ON, Canada.  Recently married to the love of his life, he enjoys hiking and biking Ottawa’s many trails and paths.  He enjoys a good debate, classic literature, heavy metal music, fine wine and cheap beer.  Yes the Rambler is a man of subtle complexities!

Steph (aka Love of my Life)

Steph is also a federal civil servant, artist, writer, companion on many of my adventures and my loving wife.

Cassie

Cassie is a Golden Retriever.  She likes to retrieve things.  She is the 2nd love of my life and another frequent companion on my outdoor adventures (at least the ones where dogs are allowed!)
